Academy to host Colorado Avalanche Burgundy/White Game

The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that it will hold its annual "Burgundy/White Game" at Cadet Ice Arena on the grounds of the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. on September 22 at 6:00 p.m. This game marks the second straight season that the Air Force Academy has played host to the event.

Air Force announces 2008-09 hockey schedule

The Air Force hockey team opens the 2008-09 season on Sunday, Oct. 5, with an exhibition game vs. the University of Alberta at the Cadet Ice Arena. Five days later, the Falcons open Atlantic Hockey Association play and begin defense of their back-to-back league championships with a two-game-road series at Sacred Heart, Oct. 10-11, in Milford, Conn.

Hockey team welcomes six newcomers

The Air Force hockey team is proud to announce the six members of the Class of 2012. The Falcons welcome three defensemen, two forwards and one goaltender. The class represents five states and four different junior hockey leagues. Greg Burgdoerfer, Scott Mathis and Paul Weisgarber come to the Academy from the U.S. Hockey League (USHL), goaltender Stephen Caple come from the British Columbia Junior Hockey League (BCJHL), Tim Kirby played in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) and Mark Williams comes to Air Force from the Central Junior Hockey League (CJHL).

Six Falcons earn AHA All-Academic honors

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Six Air Force hockey players were named to the Atlantic Hockey Association All-Academic Team. Seniors Matt Charbonneau, Eric Ehn and Frank Schiavone were joined on the team by juniors Greg Flynn and Mike Phillipich and sophomore Matt Fairchild. Charbonneau, Ehn and Schiavone all graduated in the Class of 2008 on May 28. [+]

Frank Schiavone Named to Academic All-District Team

Senior defenseman Frank Schiavone was named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® University Division At-Large All-District VII Teams as selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) and released Thursday, May 22.Schiavone was joined on the team by five other Air Force athletes fencing senior Justin Raines and men's swimming senior Spencer Liedl were all named to the men's at-large first team. Junior Abigail Rogers from the woman's gymnastics team was named to the women's at-large first team. These four will be on the ballot for Academic All-America honors. Sophomore Erlyn Rudico from women's tennis and senior Elizabeth Enyart from women's fencing were named to the second team. [+]

Falcons finish season with 21-12-6 record

Air Force finished the 2007-08 season with a 21-12-6 overall record. The Falcons won the Atlantic Hockey Association championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season. Air Force finished third in the AHA with a 14-9-5 record. The Falcons were the third seed in the AHA Tournament. AFA swept Bentley in the quarterfinals, then defeated RIT in the semifinals before edging fifth-seeded Mercyhurst, 5-4, in double overtime. [+]

Volkening and Burnett earn AHA Monthly Awards

Air Force goaltender Andrew Volkening and right winger Derrick Burnett earned AHA Monthly Awards for March. Volkening earned goalie of the month honors while Burnett was named the rookie of the month. [+]

Ehn Named Top Performer at Skills Competition

Air Force senior Eric Ehn was named the West Team's Top Performer at the NCAA Frozen Four Skills Challenge at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colo., Friday, April 11. Ehn led the West Team to a 13-6 win over the East Team in the third annual competition as part of the "Friday Night at the Frozen Four". [+]

Schiavone named to Lowe's Senior Class All-America Team

Air Force Academy senior defenseman Frank Schiavone was named to the Lowe's Senior CLASS All-America Team. Schiavone was one of 10 finalists for the award, which was presented to Princeton's Landis Stankievech. Schiavone was named to the Lowe's All-America second team, marking the second consecutive season Air Force has had a Lowe's All-American. Billy Devoney, a 2007 Academy graduate, was on the team last season. [+]
