Air Force Places Ninth at MWC Golf Championship

Tucson, Ariz. - Finishing just two strokes behind eighth-place Wyoming, the Air Force golf team finished ninth at the 2008 Mountain West Conference Championship, being held at the 7,136 yard, par-71 Catalina Course at Tucson National. The Falcons, who fired a 10-over-par 294 on the final day of action, finished the weekend with a three-round score of 596 (+38).

Leading the way for Air Force was sophomore Tom Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.), who finished tied for 14th place. Whitney shot a 4-under-par 67 on Saturday to end the tournament with a three-round score of 216 (+3).

Junior captain Shaun O'Bryant (Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished in a tie for 29th place at 221, while classmate Andrew Gibson (San Ramon, Calif.) ended tied for 36th place at 225.

Rounding out the group for Air Force were senior Bob Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.) and freshman Kyle Bailey (Austin, Texas), who finished at 228 and 237, respectively.

Colorado State came from out of fourth place to take the team title, finishing 2-under-par at 850. Meanwhile, UNLV's Eddie Olson captured medalist honors, coming in at 209 (-4).
