Lomong Advances to Olympic Semifinals in the 1500-Meter

BEIJING, China - Lopez Lomong clocked a time of 3:36.70 to advance to the semifinal round of competition in the 1500-meter run at the Olympic Games on Friday, Aug. 15. Lomong, who trains with Air Force cross country coach John Hayes, qualified to the next round of competition based on his fifth-place finish in his respective heat.

All three Americans in the 1500-meter event, advanced to the semifinals. Like Lomong, Bernard Lagat qualified by place after finishing fourth in the second heat (3:41.98), while Leonel Manzano qualified with a time of 3:36.67 (sixth-place finish) in the first heat.

The semifinals of the 1500-meter run are scheduled to take place on Sunday, Aug. 17, at 7:55 a.m. (MST).
