Matt Williams Named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

Air Force's Matt Williams was named to the 2008 Division I All-Academic Track and Field Team, the U.S. Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association announced this morning (Aug. 6). Williams, a behavioral sciences major, was one of 266 student-athletes from 111 Division I programs to make the all-academic team.

Air Force associate head coach Scott Irving sat down to discuss the last month of action following the Olympic Trials for former Academy standout Dana Pounds. "I have had a number of people ask me about Dana Pounds and her quest to make the U.S. Olympic Team. Many thought that the quest was over with the Olympic Trials. We even thought that it was, but Dana continued to throw."

David Lissy

David Lissy Named NSCA All-American

Air Force senior David Lissy, the 2008 Mountain West Conference indoor shot put champion and two-time all-conference selection, was honored by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) with its All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year award. The annual award recognizes student-athletes' dedication to strength training and conditioning.

Dana Pounds Finishes Second at Olympic Trials

Academy record-holder Dana Pounds, a current member of the Air Force World Class Athlete Program, placed second in the javelin throw in the finals of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., on Monday, June 30. Posting a distance of 189'9", Pounds finished just two feet behind the meet's winner. [+]

Paul Gensic Places Sixth at Olympic Trials

Former Academy standout Paul Gensic, competing as a member of the Air Force World Class Athlete Program (WCAP), earned a sixth-place finish in the pole vault finals of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore., on Sunday, June 29. Competing at the historic Hayward Field, Gensic cleared 18'0½" to finish the competition in a tie for sixth with the 2004 Olympic Gold medalist. [+]

Dana Pounds Wins Olympic Trials Qualifier

Defending U.S. national champion Dana Pounds advanced to the finals of the javelin throw at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials after winning the qualifying round of competition on Saturday, June 28, in Eugene, Ore. Pounds recorded a qualifying distance of 187'10" to top the field of 24 by 10 feet. In addition, Lopez Lomong qualified for the finals of the 800-meter run with a time of 1:46.02. [+]

Gensic, Lomong and Garcia Advance at Olympic Trials

Former Air Force standout Paul Gensic advanced to the finals of the pole vault competition at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials in Eugene, Ore., on Friday, June 27. Clearing a height of 18'0½", Gensic was one of 13 athletes to advance to Sunday's finals. Gensic advanced his first attempt at both clearances to tie for second in the opening field of 21. [+]

Kenny Grosselin Named to Academic All-America Team

Kenny Grosselin, a 2008 graduate of the Air Force Academy, was named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® Men's Track and Field/Cross Country First-Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and released on Monday, June 23.
