Rifle team picks up win in Reno

The Air Force Academy rifle team concluded its regular NCAA season this past weekend at the University of Nevada-Reno, Feb. 23. The Falcons earned the win against the Wolf Pack, 4519-4509. It was the first time in three years that Air Force beat Reno in rifle and the first time that Reno has lost at home in 10 years.

The Falcons' air rifle and smallbore teams consisted of seniors Justin Raines, juniors Daniel Cannard, Brian Jarrell and junior Jon Stephenson. The air rifle team shot a season-high score of 2306 x 2400. Raines finished his Academy rifle career with a season best 577 X 600 in air rifle. Jarrell finished his AFA career with a season-tying best of 582. Cannard concluded his career with a season best of 572 in air rifle. Stephenson was one point off his season best, scoring 575, while freshman Robert Vasquez shot a personal record of 577.

On March 1-3, junior Chelsea Welsh, freshmen Rachael Arthur, Tom Chandler, Vasquez and Nick Krieger will compete in air rifle at the 2008 US Olympic Team Trials.
