AFA marksman 2007-08 recipient of MWC Scholar-Athlete Award

A member of the Air Force rifle team was one of 34 Academy recipients of the Mountain West Conference Scholar-Athlete Award 2007-08. Justin Raines a senior from Knoxville, Tenn., received the honor as announced on June 23, 2008 by the league office. Raines held a cumulative grade point average of 3.84 in Systems Engineering Management.

Justin Raines from the rifle team was named first-team Academic All-District

Justin Raines is one of six Air Force athletes who were named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® University Division At-Large All-District VII Teams as selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) and released Thursday, May 22. Raines received first-team honors and will be on the ballot for Academic All-America honors.

Rifle team picks up win in Reno

The Air Force Academy rifle team concluded its regular NCAA season this past weekend at the University of Nevada-Reno, Feb. 23. The Falcons earned the win against the Wolf Pack, 4519-4509. It was the first time in three years that Air Force beat Reno in rifle.

Air Force Rifle falls to TCU

The Air Force Academy rifle team competed in a match against the TCU rifle team on Feb. 2, 2008. AFA's top shooter was freshman Tom Chandler, from Oak Harbor, Wash. Chandler finished the match with an aggregate 1145 score. In team scoring, TCU outscored the Falcons 4644-4527. In air rifle, the Falcons scored a 2284 and finished with a 2243 in smallbore. [+]

Air Force Rifle Team Scores Big Wins

The Air Force Academy rifle team won both matches against The Citadel and Virginia Military Institute (VMI) this past weekend in Charleston, S.C., shooting both smallbore and air rifle during Saturday's and Sunday's competition. Air Force finished in first place with an aggregate team score of 4488. Second place went to VMI's "A" team with a score of 4314, The Citadel men's team followed with an aggregate 4308, fourth place went to the VMI "B" team (3799), and the Citadel women's team (2133) finished fifth. National Rifle Team Trials

USAF Academy, Colo. - On Dec. 1-2, 2007, the Air Force Academy rifle team competed in the National Rifle Team Trials at the USOTC in Colorado Springs. AFA's Rachael Arthur, shot a 380 in 10m air rifle on both days. Senior Chelsea Welsh shot a 379 and 382, respectively. On Saturday, Dec. 1, freshman Tom Chandler was the Falcons' top shooter in air rifle, shooting a 575/600. The next day, Chandler shot a 576. Junior Brian Jarrell shot a 567 on day one; he bested his score by five points (572) on day two. [+]

Rifle team suffers loss to Nebraska

The Air Force Academy rifle team lost, 4499-4619, to Nebraska on Thursday, Nov. 29, at the Cadet Gymnasium rifle range. The Falcons scored 2301 points in air rifle and 2198 points in smallbore. [+]

Rifle team loses to Nevada-Reno

The rifle team lost the match against Nevada-Reno, 4587-4485, on Sunday at the Academy. Air Force scored 2308 in air rifle and 2177 in smallbore for the aggregate score. Nevada-Reno had 2322 points in air rifle and 2265 in smallbore. In air rifle, AFA's top shooters were Brian Jarrell, who scored a personal best 584/600. [+]
